Kitchen Storage Solutions

rdwolfenden

Our kitchen is small. We're not talking Manhattan-corner-kitchen small, but for a large family who hosts multiple friends for home-cooked meals each week, we don't have a lot of storage space, and our cabinets are flimsy and shallow. Now we do have a super cool retro 60s kitchen in our basement. A whole. Second. Kitchen. Which is amazing for my extra items I use less often, but I typically cook 2-3 meals each day, and I can't be running downstairs every time I need a cheese grater.

All this to say: I need smart storage solutions for my kitchen. The items below are my favorites. Homegoods is my favorite store for this kind of stuff, but I've linked some options and examples from Amazon, for your convenience.

  • This rolling cart for my crockpot, instant pot, air fryer, and stand mixer made the biggest difference in my kitchen because it got all these little appliances off my countertop but kept them in reach.

  • Spice racks: I have traditional tiered shelves and a few lazy susans, but these look really cool too, depending on the height and depth of your cabinets.

  • Pop canisters: I know these are pricy up front, but I've tried so many cheaper storage solutions for my loose spices and baking ingredients and coffee and pasta, and these are just the best. They're sturdy and effective at keeping my ingredients sealed and fresh. They also stack together nicely. I saved up and bought them over several years. Homegoods often has these to mix and match, and Costco has a big set that goes on sale a few times a year.

  • Pot lid organizers

  • Pot/pan stacking flowers: If you have pans with any kind of coating on them, you need something between them to keep them from chipping when they're nested in the cupboard.

  • Cereal containers: Not a necessity, but I got these recently and they are nice to keep cereal fresh, especially with kiddos who forget to clip the bag closed.

  • Small totes: I love these to separate sauces and pastas and snacks in my pantry.

  • Foil/plastic wrap organizer: My mom just bought one of these and loves it.

  • Pantry snack drawer organizer: I can't find the exact one I have, but I wish I had this one.

  • Stacking fruit baskets and under-cabinet banana hook

  • Sink dish drying rack

Most of these items don't require explanation, but leave a comment if you have any questions or recommendations of your own :)
